At Baitambogwe Community Healthcare Initiative (BACHI), we are committed to protecting the privacy and personal data of our donors, partners, students, and the communities we serve. This policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information in accordance with the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 of Uganda.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect personal information through our website, medical centers, and community outreach programs, including:

  • Donors: Name, email address, phone number, and transaction details for those contributing to our health and empowerment projects.
  • Students: Academic records and personal identification for those enrolled in the BACHI Technical Institute.
  • Health Service Beneficiaries: Limited health data required for treatment at BACHI Medical Centre or through community-led health programs, such as immunization status, HIV/TB screening results, and maternal health records.
  • Digital Data: IP addresses and cookies to improve website functionality and user experience.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your data is used solely to further our mission of “healthy and empowered communities”. Specific uses include:

  • Service Delivery: Providing quality medical, preventive, and socio-economic support.
  • Accountability: Reporting impact and achievements to our national and international partners, such as GAVI, PATH, and the Ministry of Health (data used for reporting is typically anonymized).
  • Communication: Sending quarterly reports, success stories, and newsletters to stakeholders and donors who have opted in.
  • Research: Using evidence-based data to inform health innovations and advocacy for health equity.

3. Data Protection and Digital Security

In line with our systems strengthening pillar, BACHI utilizes secure digital tools such as Kobo Collect and GIS-based mapping to manage community health data. We implement strict technical and organizational measures to prevent unauthorized access, loss, or disclosure of sensitive information.

4. Confidentiality and Third-Party Sharing

BACHI does not sell or rent personal information to third parties. We only share data when:

  • Required for Medical Referrals: Transitioning patients from grassroots care to formal state judicial or health institutions (e.g., JRRH or the Uganda Police Force).
  • Mandated by Law: Complying with the Non-Governmental Organizations Act, 2016 or other Ugandan legal requirements.
  • Partner Reporting: Providing necessary performance data to grant-funding partners like USAID, UN-WOMEN, or the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

5. Your Rights

As a data subject, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request the correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request the deletion of your data, subject to legal and contractual obligations (such as medical record retention laws).
  • Withdraw consent for marketing or newsletter communications at any time.
