17+ Years of Service: A Steadfast Champion for Health Rights
At BACHI, we take full responsibility for our actions and the resources entrusted to us. We ensure that every project delivers its promised impact through rigorous monitoring and evaluation. By maintaining high standards of personal and organizational integrity, we honor our commitments to donors, partners, and the communities we serve.
We believe that collective effort is the key to sustainable change. Our staff, volunteers, and community members work in harmony, combining diverse skills and perspectives to solve complex health and economic challenges. By fostering a culture of mutual respect and collaboration, we achieve more than any individual could alone.
Openness is the foundation of our trust. We maintain clear, accessible communication regarding our decision-making processes, financial management, and project outcomes. By being transparent with our stakeholders, we ensure ethical management and invite the community to remain active participants in our journey toward a healthier, more prosperous future.
Health interventions are most effective when they are community-led. We actively involve local residents in the design, implementation, and management of our projects. This ensures that our services are deeply rooted in actual needs, culturally appropriate, and sustainable long after the initial implementation phase has concluded.
We recognize that breaking the cycle of poverty and disease requires a multi-sectoral approach. We collaborate with government bodies, international NGOs, and academic institutions like GAVI and PATH. These partnerships allow us to leverage specialized technical support, expand our reach, and implement data-driven solutions for maximum impact.
We focus on stopping disease before it starts through proactive community-led initiatives. This includes regular immunization drives, comprehensive HIV prevention, and health education campaigns. By emphasizing prevention, we reduce the medical burden on families and create a stronger, more resilient foundation for community-wide wellbeing and long-term health.
Our strategy involves empowering households to withstand financial shocks through skilling and financial literacy. By supporting Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) and vocational training, we help families build capital and marketable skills. This resilience ensures they can manage emergencies, such as medical bills, without falling back into poverty.
We are committed to delivering professional, holistic healthcare through the BACHI Medical Centre. Our objective is to provide accessible, high-quality services including maternal care, safe deliveries, and laboratory diagnostics. By treating health as a fundamental human right, we ensure that every community member receives the dignified care they deserve.
Founded in 2008, the Baitambogwe Community Healthcare Initiative (BACHI) is an indigenous non-governmental organization registered under the Non-Governmental Organizations Act, 2016 of Uganda (Reg. No. INDR117592920NB). BACHI is headquartered in Mayuge District and serves communities across Eastern and Central Uganda. BACHI was established in response to the critical observation that the burden of ill health is a major barrier to socio-economic development among underserved populations. By addressing health as a fundamental human right, we empower communities to overcome vulnerability, improve livelihoods, and build resilient and sustainable futures.
Our work is guided by a clear Vision of healthy and empowered communities and a Mission to deliver holistic well-being through integrated medical, preventive, and socio-economic services. We believe that sustainable health outcomes are best achieved through community-led approaches. Accordingly, our Core Values—Accountability, Transparency, Teamwork, Community Participation, and Strategic Partnerships—ensure that all our interventions are ethical, inclusive, sustainable, and responsive to community needs.
To achieve lasting impact, BACHI focuses on three Strategic Objectives:
These objectives are implemented through a broad range of Areas of Intervention, including HIV and TB prevention, prevention and management of non-communicable diseases, sexual and reproductive health services, climate change and environmental health, human rights advocacy, research, and the protection and support of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC). Recognizing that health outcomes are closely linked to economic stability, we also promote sustainable livelihoods to enable households to maintain and improve their well-being.
BACHI’s strong track record is reflected in the confidence placed in us by a diverse network of national and international partners. We are proud to collaborate with organizations such as Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), PATH Uganda, the Global Fund, AIDS Healthcare Foundation and Uganda Cares, The AIDS Support Organization, John Snow Inc. (JSI-Uganda), the Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau (UPMB), Makerere University School of Public Health, the University of California San Francisco, Oxford University (UK), the Uganda Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, and various local government authorities. Through these partnerships, BACHI serves as a vital bridge between global resources and local impact. We invite the international community to partner with us as we continue to innovate, advocate, and deliver quality care to those who need it most.
